I’m Amy, but you can call me Sass—roller derby player, plant hoarder, barefoot bookworm, and the heart behind this little bookshop with a bold personality.

For six years, I co-owned and ran a residential trash company with my dad. That experience taught me how to work hard, adapt fast, and trust my instincts. But through all the roles I’ve played, books have always been my home base.

As a kid, I was the one hiding under the covers with a flashlight, completely lost in another world. But like a lot of people, I drifted away from reading in my early adult life—bogged down by books I thought I should be reading instead of the ones I actually enjoyed. That changed in my late 20s, when I rediscovered my love of reading while running trash routes—thanks to audiobooks. Romance reignited my passion, and I haven’t looked back since. Now, I fully embrace that I’m both an audiobook and physical book girl, and I firmly believe you should read whatever brings you joy—no shame, no gatekeeping.

Sassbound Books was born out of that passion. And yes—the name has a story. I’ve been playing roller derby since 2017 under the name Sassathrash (but everyone just calls me Sass). When I started this shop, I wanted something that reflected both the fierce, fearless side of me on the track and the cozy, book-obsessed side of me at home. Sassbound felt like the perfect combination—bold, bookish, and undeniably me.

When I’m not reading or skating, I’m spending time with my best friend and husband, Kyle, along with our spoiled fur baby, Winston. I also have a growing plant collection, incredibly vivid dreams (seriously—they’re like movie plots), and an intense dislike for wearing shoes. You’ll usually find me barefoot, book in hand, and dreaming up what’s next.
